This two-day course provides a detailed and comprehensive introduction to Canada's unconventional oil industry. The instruction begins with the history of the oilsands, and examines the downstream, midstream, and upstream operations that differentiates oilsands production from conventional methods.

TARGET AUDIENCE:
This course is ideal for anyone who is new to the oilsands industry and those who work in the oilsands industry in professions not specifically related to oil and gas production and development, i.e. accounting, human resources. It is recommended that those without a petroleum background take Oilpatch 101 prior to taking Oilsands 101.
WHY OILSANDS 101?
Learning through a combination of presentations, graphics, multimedia and hands-on activities, when you’ve finished this course, you will:
1. Recognize the importance of the oilsands in a global context.
2. Understand the oilsands production process from recovery to upgrading to transportation and refining.
3. Know the key players on the oilsands scene today, and be able to differentiate between mining and in situ projects.

INSTRUCTOR:
Frank Henderson
BIOGRAPHY:
Frank has over 35 years of experience across a broad spectrum of the energy industry. His oil and gas experience includes exploration, production, and marketing where he was previously employed by Amoco Canada, Drillwest Energy, and Chauvco Resources, prior to starting his own company. He is currently involved in the many new opportunities that have evolved from the restructuring of the natural gas industry, the growing importance of the oilsands, and the rapidly emerging unconventional natural gas sector. He is also actively monitoring issues affecting the restructuring of Alberta’s electric power industry and those of other Canadian provinces, as well as electric power restructuring issues in the United States and internationally.
During the last 18 years, Frank has instructed various energy-related subjects at public and in-house courses to hundreds of industry and non-industry representatives. He has also given several shorter topical presentations at breakfast and luncheon meetings. Some of his major topics have included natural gas, crude oil, crude bitumen, and unconventional gas. He has acquired a proven track record of being an excellent instructor with an innate ability to present complex material in simple terms and capture the attention of his audience with his articulate, lively, and interactive delivery.
